Dihydrogen Monoxide, is it safe? and is it an emmission from a hydrogen car?

Bender asked:

The Web Site

http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html

Says that Dihydrogen Monoxide Is toxic and can kill humans. But this site

http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/weblog/dihydrogen_monoxide/hoax.ico

says Dihydrogen Monoxide is just another name for water.
My concern is Dihydrogen Monoxide is the main byproduct that is produced as a result of using hydrogen to power cars, which many car companies are planning on doing! If a car driver breathed in Dihydrogen Monoxide, woulden’t they die?

  1. Joe U Says:

Dihydrogen Monoxide is very dangerous, especially if introduced into the lungs in its liquid form. It is highly unstable when exposed to reactive metals such as sodium.
It can accelerate the oxidation process of ferrous metals. In its solid form, it can cause great damage if a large enough piece of it strikes a person or object.

Many tests have been carried out on this substance and it has proved to be fatal to land animals, though Annilda seem to live longer when immersed in it.

All in all, this is hazardous stuff and should be banned.

Dihydrogen monoxide means that the molecule has two hydrogen atom and one oxygen atom; this would make it H2O or water. Water is not toxic and the site is a HOAX.

  3. tham153 Says:

This is a joke, right? Dihydrogen monoxide is just gibberish for H2O, otherwise water. You are in far greater danger inhaling what cars put out now, from internal combustion of gasoline, since it includes carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and a long list of carcinogens. The H2O exhaust would be in the form of tiny droplets. Not especially dangerous. If this isn’t a joke, it is just obfuscation by the oil companies to squelch a technology that would take business from them, just as they did with electric cars, like General Motor’s EV-1.

Dude, it is water. The website is making a joke, read the article and substiture water, you’l see how anthing can be made scary if cloaked a little in pseudo science.

  5. Jack Skelington Says:

Lol, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) is not toxic but can kill humans. I don’t believe that breathing in water vapor could kill you. Otherwise we’d all be dead by now.
